Argument structure theory refers to the lexical representation of the predicates produced by the deep structure. Each predicate requires many Arguments. The number, type, and nature of Arguments required is called the Argument structure. The number and type of syntactic Arguments in the Argument structure are determined according to the sub-categorization framework. The number and type of Semantic Arguments are determined according to the Theta grid. Predicate Arguments can also be alternated in syntax with other Arguments depending on the type of predicate. Is there any change in the sub-categorization framework of the predicate, and what are the problems when changing Arguments? Of course, syntactic alternation of the Argument structure is not randomly and unconstitutional, but are linked by syntactic and semantic constraints.
